Boat Watch App Reviews

8 Customer Reviews:

using port everglades as prime example. maps do not reflect actual harbor layout of either everglades or dania port areas. large tankers shown inland by 300 meters when they are actually in water at that same location. docking 1 thru about 16 are totally not shown and the line that is shown is highly inacurate for up the icw to other small and major harbors as well. same for miami.

I purchased this app for my Mac to track a specific vehicle-carrying ship (MIGNON) from Germany to Halifax to New Jersey in order to determine the arrrival date of my new car into port. Unfortunately the positional data was not being maintained for periods of days. Out of frustration I purchased another app for my iPhone to find that AIS updates were being broadcast hourly with the revised plot of the MIGNON’s position. My Mac is up to date with OS-X El Capitan 10.11.6 and current Java adapters. I also noted, (perhaps for addtional developer feedback) that the vessel infomation pop-up obscures the vessel map location, and erases the track history. This app needs a good deal of human factors engineering along with a proper database back-end.

As a sailboat owner in Southern California it’s nice to know where the bigger ships will be ahead of time. This works well. Unlike others I have no trouble zooming down to a detailed-enough level.

Downloaded the free version and there were boats to watch even though i know theres many ships in my port…. bought the upgrade figuring i would be able to see more of the ships and more info and the only ships we can see are over seas…no American vessels available waste of money

This app does exactly what it’s advertised to do but the inability to zoom in or out of the map is a bit frustrating since you’re presented with a fix image area. Add this one feature and that will make all the difference.

Another reviewer indicated that Boat Watch doesn’t have the ability to zoom in or out - this is not true. Just use the standard Apple zoom gestures on the trackpad (pinch with two fingers) to do this. App works as advertised, very satisfied with it.

Not showing the bulk of ships in the harbor near where I live

This app provides no useful ship information to me. It is devoid of the bulk of the ships near the harbor where I live. I am using a late 2012 Mac Mini upgraded to the latest OS that my Mac Mini can handle which is macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.6. If this is too ancient for this app, I didn’t see any warning that it might not work on my ancient Mac Mini. I would flike a refund!

waste of money

I'd give zero stars if possible. I'm at the Corpus Christi shipping channel and Boat Watch shows no tanker ships in the channel and none outside the channel waiting to come in. My other ship tracking apps on my phone show one tanker under way in the channel and seven tankers and one cargo ship outside the channel at anchor and two tankers under way headed toward the channel. very poor application

Appears to Not Maintain Current Information

App does in fact allow zooming

Another reviewer indicated that Boat Watch doesn’t have the ability to zoom in or out - this is not true. Just use the standard Apple zoom gestures on the trackpad (pinch with two fingers) to do this. App works as advertised, very satisfied with it.
